Our Focus Advisory lead, Mark Wood-Collier, is an avid runner and a member of the Good Times Running Club (GTRC).
As the name would suggest, the GTRC is a welcoming group with a social atmosphere. The club promotes a very supportive community for runners of all abilities to achieve their goals.
The GTRC had their second anniversary event on the weekend, where the club and its members celebrated with an ‘Adventure Race’ styled run.
Walsh Accountants is proud to have supported the event and sponsored some awards for the prize giving ceremony, which was held after the event at Tallebudgera Beach.
The event started early on Saturday morning, with participants in different forms of fancy dress organising themselves into their respective teams.
There were a few curve balls thrown at the competitors. For example, finishing first doesn’t necessarily make you a winner. In fact, teams had to estimate how long it would take them to complete an unknown 10.5km course around the Tallebudgera and Burleigh Heads area. With GPS and running watches prohibited, the teams finishing closest to their estimated times would receive a greater points boost, in addition to their ‘Adventure Race’ trivia answers.
The feedback from the participants was exceedingly positive, despite a torrential down pour during the event.
Mark’s group didn’t take home the win, but he says: “it’s great to be able to actively contribute to a local group like we did. Thanks to the organisers, who did an amazing job handling the logistics and preparing the course. Our team ran well and, most importantly, had plenty of laughs along the way.”
Well done to the organisers and congratulations to all the runners who took part in the event.
