Having clear goals set for yourself and your business provides a sense of DIRECTION, MOTIVATION, and a clear FOCUS on what you are trying to achieve for the year ahead.
Are you ready to kick 2022 in the butt and make it your most successful ever? Follow this approach to set your goals for the New Year.
When setting your goals, they should be organised into 5 categories …
- Business
- Health
- Wealth
- Relationships
- Personal
When setting goals and planning on how to attack and achieve them think…
S M A R T
Which stands for…
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant / Realistic
Timely
Now you’ve taken the SMART planning approach to each of your goals and you know how you’re going to achieve them, stagger your tasks throughout the year.
Take this approach:
Short term (weekly ā set 5 per week)
Mid term (monthly ā set 1- 2 per month)
Long term (yearly ā set as many as you like)
Easy as that!
Let put this into action with an example
Individual & Business Profile:
Male – 45 years old
Business – Residential and Commercial Service Business
15 Employees / Operating for 8 years.
Overall Goal: In 2022, I will increase profits by 30 percent by acquiring two new clients each week, finishing projects 10 percent faster, and cutting expenses by $1,000 per month.
S.M.A.R.T. Goal: Acquire two new clients each week
Specific: I will reach out to my existing clients and network. Purpose of the reach out it to ensure they are happy with the services/work provided by my company and to encourage them to refer business onto me.
Measurable: I will call / email 4 clients or network contacts per week
Achievable: Scheduling 2 hours per week will make this goal achievable. Existing clients I also need to make time to speak with the client manager/regular service technician for any relevant background information before making contact
Relevant: Yes. Leveraging from my existing client base and network could be the easiest way to increase referrals and new business into the company. Also, touching base ensures we maintain a high customer satisfaction so we do not lose any business.
Time-based: Complete 30 calls by the end of February 2022. Review to ascertain if strategy has resulted in at least 16 new clients.
BUT this leads you to the question of whether or not the business has the capacity to handle the influx of work this activity will generate. Often completing SMART goal setting, this will lead you into more goal setting to ensure that you have everything covered to help you achieve your overall goal.
Once you have all your goals planned and set, this is when you stagger all activities from multiple goals to help you achieve your overall goal by the end of the year.
